The NorthEast United interim coach suggested that a few of the players in his group have to do when they get an opportunity.

NorthEast United FC finished Indian Super League (ISL) 2019-20 year with yet another disappointing result as they succumbed to a 2-2 draw against Chennaiyin FC.

The Highlanders were on track to pick up their third win of the year but a late goal by Lallianzuala Chhangte spoiled their party.

Interim coach Khalid Jamil suggested following the game that clicked for them throughout the game but a ridiculous goal, in the long run, cost them the win.

“We did not become defensive after taking the lead. What we attempted clicked but I believe we conceded a silly goal in the long run.”

Jamil mentioned that a few of the players in his group have the wrong mentality and aren’t doing well when given an opportunity.

“I thought it was a clear three points for us. We tried our best. We must think positive for next season and work hard. A few of the players have the wrong mindset. They get opportunities and after obtaining the chance they do not perform. When you get a chance you need to perform.”

The prior I-League-winning coach praised the performances of his players and implied that Jose Leudo and Martin Chaves, the only foreign players that were fielded from the Highlanders, had an exceptional game.

“All the players played well. (Jose) Leudo was fantastic now. Martin Chaves scored a wonderful goal. He’s a fantastic player and he just needs assurance. The Indian players did well.”

The boss hailed resistance Chennaiyin FC among the strongest teams in the league. “Chennaiyin are a fantastic team. They’re among the strongest teams in the league,” said Jamil.
