East Bengal’s Mehtab Singh and Actual Kashmir’s Phurba Lachenpa are all set to don the Mumbai City jersey at the next season.

East Bengal central defender Mehtab Singh is all set to join Indian Super League (ISL) side Mumbai City FC at the upcoming season.

The Red and Golds childhood merchandise, who had been promoted to the senior side at the 2017-18 season by then head coach Khalid Jamil, is set to leave after spending three seasons in the club.

It had previously been reported that Mumbai’s central defender Pratik Chaudhari is very likely to jump ship and join Bengaluru FC at the upcoming season. With Chaudhari departing, the Islanders are set to replace him with youthful Mehtab Singh.

The 21-year-old defender was sent on loan to Gokulam Kerala last season during the winter transfer window and he’d appeared in five I-League matches for the Kerala-based club.

He returned to the Kolkata club this year and has been fairly regular at the club’s starting lineup at the I-League. The youngster has up to now made 11 appearances in the continuing I-League.

Apart from Mehtab Singh, the City Football Group-owned facet can be set to rope in Actual Kashmir’s first-choice goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa. The 22-year-old custodian had previously played Shillong Lajong.

Credit must be given to the Mumbai City management who have acted quickly in the transfer market following the club’s disappointing outing in this year’s ISL. The Islanders had finished fifth and failed to make it into the play-offs

They had previously signed 19-year-old right-back Mohammad Rakip from Kerala Blasters and had extended the contracts of major first-team players such as Raynier Fernandes and Bipin Singh.
