Indian Super League (ISL) side Mumbai City FC are set to sign Chennaiyin FC’s left-back Tondonba Singh to the upcoming season, Goal can affirm.
Tondonba, 25, graduated from I-League side NEROCA FC’s youth setup and has been promoted to the club’s senior side at age 16 when he made his professional debut in Manipur State League.
The Manipuri full-back was an essential part of this NEROCA FC side which made their I-League introduction from the 2017-18 season. He appeared in every single match for NEROCA since the Imphal-based club finished second in the I-League under the tutelage of Donation Raikhan.
His remarkable performance for NEROCA captured Chennaiyin FC’s focus and has been roped in by the ISL club another season.
Tondonba appeared in 10 ISL and four AFC Cup matches in his maiden season for the Marina Machans. In the recently concluded edition of the ISL, he played nine matches.
Together with the City Football Group (CFG) officially taking over the Mumbai City FC this year, the club is expected to have a busy transfer window this time.
Mumbai’s celebrity left-back Subhashish Bose has left the club at the end of this 2019-20 year and will join his hometown club ATK. With Bose gone, Tondonba will be a like for like replacement.
Additionally, Target had already confirmed that the Islanders are close to signing East Bengal’s central defender Mehtab Singh and Real Kashmir FC custodian Phurba Lachenpa. They’re also likely to launch Pratik Chaudhari who’s set to sign for Bengaluru FC.
